NYC Ramble about Garbage

Walking and driving around NYC  I’ve noticed an increase in the amount of garbage on the streets, sidewalks, highways and subways.  I’ve lived here for over thirty years.  Since 1992, I haven’t seen the city so dirty.  Writing one’s nick name on a building in permanent, black and blue marker is  also on the rise.  That means there is a growth in the amount of people who disrespect their environment.  Having experienced this trend before, what usually follows is higher crime rates.  In the news this week, for instance, reports are that shootings are up since last year.  Observations, correlations and ramblings, I’m looking for an answer and that is where you, the reader, comes in.  Do you have any theories about this?
